Interview with Ionésio Junior

Github: @IonesioJunior

Where are you based?

Maranhão, Brazil.

What do you do (i.e. studying, working, etc.)?

Working as a software developer at OpenMined.

What are your specialties (i.e. Python development, Javascript development, community organization, etc.)?

Python development.

How and when did you originally come across OpenMined?

During my final year in college (2019). I was working on my final project which aimed to propose cybersecurity   alternatives   to   make   data  available,  reliable,   and  secure without the restriction of hardware. Then one professor and one friend of mine spotted the PySyft repository. So I started using the PySyft library and eventually contributing to it.

What was the first thing you started working on within OpenMined?

Adding TLS protocol in the PySyft web socket communication layer, making its messages encrypted and authenticated.

And what are you working on now?

Improving PySyft API, sketching a standard in messages protocol to make it easier to be adopted by different components of the infrastructure (and maybe third-party software.).

What would you say to someone who wants to start contributing?

Submit to the next Padawan Program. It’s an amazing way to get in touch with people that are actively contributing to the OpenMined community and also learn a bit more about data privacy challenges.

Please   recommend   one   interesting   book,   podcast   or   resource   to   the OpenMined community.

The servant: A simple story about the true essence of leadership.
