We’re thrilled to announce that OpenMined has joined Accelerate Science Now (ASN), a non-partisan coalition of leaders in industry, academia, civil society, and the research community committed to igniting a new era of rapid scientific discovery for the American people.
About Accelerate Science Now
Led by SeedAI, ASN launched with a bold vision: AI and other game-changing technologies have made it possible to solve some of our hardest challenges, but capturing this opportunity will require a grand national effort across the public and private sectors.
The coalition brings together an impressive group of organizations, including Anthropic, AWS, Meta, Carnegie Mellon University, UC Berkeley, the Federation of American Scientists, Ginkgo Bioworks, FutureHouse, and many others. Together, we’re working to develop partnerships, conduct research, and educate policymakers and the public about opportunities to transform the scientific enterprise.
Why We’re Joining
The coalition is organized around four key pillars:
- AI: Support transformational and responsible AI capabilities at every stage of the scientific process
- Data: Build unified platforms that ensure scientific data is coherent, complete, and easily accessible
- Participation: Supercharge participation across the country through cross-disciplinary public-private partnerships
- Compute: Ensure the U.S. maintains the global lead in compute power for science
OpenMined is excited to contribute its expertise to the Data pillar. Scientific progress increasingly depends on access to sensitive datasets, including medical records, proprietary experiments, clinical trials, sensor readings, and more. But traditional data-sharing practices create privacy and security risks that can slow or entirely block scientific collaboration.
This is exactly the problem we solve. Our Solutions enable researchers to answer questions using data they can’t see, enabling scientists to collaborate across institutions, train models on sensitive datasets, and validate findings, all without compromising individual privacy or proprietary information.
What This Means
By joining ASN, we’re committing to work alongside coalition partners to:
- Advocate for policies that enable responsible data sharing in scientific research
- Contribute our technical expertise on privacy-preserving infrastructure
- Help design systems where scientific data is accessible to researchers while remaining secure
- Support the broader goal of making AI-powered discovery available across the country
“We believe the next great scientific breakthroughs will require access to data that currently sits locked away due to legitimate privacy and security concerns,” said Andrew Trask, Executive Director of OpenMined. “ASN represents exactly the kind of all-of-society movement needed to build the infrastructure for responsible data access, and we’re proud to contribute our expertise alongside such a distinguished group of partners.“
What’s Next
We’re looking forward to collaborating with ASN members to advance shared goals around scientific infrastructure. This partnership represents another step towards achieving our mission to make privacy-preserving technologies the foundation for trustworthy AI development, whether that’s enabling platforms to support academic research, helping governments share data securely, or now, accelerating scientific discovery for the benefit of all Americans.
