Since 2019, OpenMined has been collaborating with the United Nations Statistics Division to support the adoption of privacy-enhancing technologies to unlock valuable datasets at national statistics offices and other public sector agencies. OpenMined’s contributions were recently recognised in the 2024 Annual Report of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Big Data and Data Science for Official Statistics (UNCEBD). The report, presented to the UN Statistical Commission’s fifty-sixth session, describes how the UN Global Platform has deployed and tested PySyft to provide a platform for privacy-preserving data collaboration.
The report also discusses OpenMined’s contributions to the 8th International Conference on Big Data and Data Science which took place in June 2024, where members of the OpenMined team provided a demonstration of how PySyft can be leveraged to unlock public sector datasets, alongside colleagues from the the Brazilian national statistics office and the UN PET Lab. This showcase underscores PySyft’s potential in enabling secure and privacy-preserving data collaboration between statistical agencies and other organizations.
OpenMined is excited to continue collaborating with statistical agencies around the world in order to effectively leverage privacy-enhancing technologies to maximise the public benefit of their data, and help solve critical global challenges.
